Is this really the Nation's Biggest Crisis?
Pakistan is a country full of crises many would argue that financial crisis is the biggest challenge, some would say that power shortage is the biggest problem other might suggest that it is ‘Yahoodi Sazish’ which is responsible for our decline.
Since we live in a free country and everybody has a right to present opinion. In my opinion the biggest crisis that we as a nation are facing is the moral crisis.
The collective condition of our nation is that we have become used to this moral crisis. Everyday millions of us observe the traffic irregularities on the road, everybody is in a hurry but it has become a part of our culture to be late everywhere whether it is schools, university , weddings or any other place. We use a term ‘PAKISTANI TIME’ which means at least thirty minutes late, this is where we are standing and it is only one example, there are million of such examples. Courtesy, Kindness, Patience and Good Manners have become a thing of the past.
The power of media is unparalleled in the modern world and unfortunately it is responsible for the decline in moral values. Media houses have a variety of choices to content projection and yet they choose the content which polarize our society, make people materialistic, force people to do stupid acts so they can win a microwave. We must ask ourselves is this the value of a microwave or any other commodity.
Daily from 7PM till midnight we witness the zero productivity of our news channels. People including news anchors shout and argue with each other and say goodbye to the viewers without giving them the solution to the problem. The next day whole debate is forgotten and the cycle continues. These programs only bring chaos and anarchy to the system.
I wonder if at the beginning of every political program it becomes compulsory for the news anchors to disclose their monthly salary. Will we still believe that they are raising their voices for the truth.
Media has the power to educate people but for that to happen media must not focus on generating hefty profits. Media houses have to put greed at a side and use their infrastructure for the transformation of the people for good. Media can launch a campaign against dowry related issues, pollution, crime, corruption etc. Media can launch awareness programs e.g scientific programs, programs related to history, art, religion, culture, travel and tourism there is much more but in the end it is only a matter of choice whether we want to live as we are living or to change ourselves for a better future.
